UOV OPP INVESTIGATING SERIOUS COLLISION ON HIGHWAY 17

Highway 17 now open

 

(LAURENTIAN HILLS, ON) - Highway 17 has now re-opened after a serious two vehicle collision on the evening of August 12, 2021. Members of the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the collision on Highway 17 in Laurentian Hills, west of Kings Road, at just after 10:00 p.m. last night.   

 

Preliminary investigation has revealed that an eastbound passenger car collided with a westbound tractor trailer. The driver of the passenger vehicle was transported to hospital by ambulance and subsequently flown to an Ottawa-area hospital by Air ORNGE with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the passenger vehicle was extricated from their vehicle by the Laurentian Hills Fire Department (LHFD). The LHFD also provide fire suppression as the tractor trailer caught fire as a result of the collision. The driver of the tractor trailer unit was not injured.  

 

The investigation is continuing with the assistance of OPP Technical Collision Investigation (TCI) members. Deep River Police Service officers also assisted with the incident. The Ministry of the Environment is also responded due to a fuel spill from the tractor trailer. The collision resulted in the closure of Highway 17 for several hours between Plant Road and Beladair Road in Laurentian Hills.
