07:00 PM — 08:00 PM

Join the Welland Museum (virtually) as we chat with bestselling author Genevieve Graham about her latest novel The Forgotten Home Child. Like us, Graham is a strong supporter of Canadian history so we’ll talk about how important it is to tell our stories, in particular about the British Home Children, a little-known part of history that inspired her latest novel. The virtual event will be live from 7pm-8pm EDT on Wednesday, September 23, 2020. Tickets are $10 for non-members. Members will save 25% with a special promo code.* (Sign up for a membership here.) A private Zoom link will be shared with all ticket holders prior to the event.  The Welland Museum is working in partnership with Someday Books for this event. If you buy a copy of Genevieve Graham’s novel, The Forgotten Home Child, from Someday Books, you will receive a signed book plate from the author (limited quantities available). Order your copy by September 1, 2020 to ensure you receive the book before the event. Please note in the comment section of the online order that you are purchasing it for the Welland Museum event so the signed book plate can be added to your order. A warning on content: The lives of many British Home Children were not positive so there will be discussions surrounding the treatment many of these children received when they arrived in Canada. *A promo code was emailed to members on July 29, 2020. If you did not receive an email with a promo code, are a Welland Museum member, and are interested in purchasing tickets, please email Kaley at kaley@wellandmuseum.ca.

Hand made red scarves are donated to us from the Niagara community, we then take all those scarves and attach a hang tag with HIV/AIDS information. Events are held over the last week of November where we have a flag raising in St. Catharines, Niagara Falls and this year Welland, then the everyone who joins us take those scarves and tie them down the streets on lamp posts, meters and trees for anyone to take. The information tag says to keep the scarf to keep warm but to please read and share the information about HIV/AIDS. Our lovely community here in Niagara donated 1000 scarves last year but we are hoping for 1500 this year to have enough to host events in three cities.
