Pandemic: Unmasking Influenza Travelling Exhibition

On Display at Glanmore National Historic Site, 257 Bridge Street East, Belleville, from August 9 to September 29, 2019 The world's deadliest influenza pandemic, known as the Spanish Flue, swept across Canada and the World between 1918-1919. With no effective vaccine or treatment, the virus infected Canadians at an alarming rate, resulting in approximately 55,000 deaths. Discover how the Spanish Flue pandemic profoundly impacted the history of Canada in this new travelling exhibit from Ingenium. Local artifacts, newspaper reports and photographs will show how Belleville and the Quinte Region were impacted. Glanmore National Historic Site is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 4:30 pm in August and Tuesday to Sunday from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm in September.

Those early days in the 60’s and early 70’s at MSS hold some great memories for many of us and it is going to be great to get together to celebrate this milestone in the history of our school . The gathering will take place at the Dugout Restaurant 514 Dundas St. East (at the corner of Farley Ave) in Belleville on Sunday, September 8, 2019 from 2-5 pm. In partnership with Quinte Mind & Body, we will be hosting meditation workshops and practices. Dana Goodfellow, a certified meditation instructor, will be in the Library on July 8 and 29 to provide a 45 minute introduction to meditation. On all other Mondays from July 15-August 26, we will be offering guided meditation practice with Dana Goodfellow’s recorded practices. These workshops and practices are open to anyone, whether you’re a seasoned meditator or completely new! The Wii Bowling League is on Tuesdays starting at 1:30 pm at the office of Community Care for Seniors, 74A King Street, Picton. Seniors can enter a team of four or sign up as an individual. Wii bowling is not physically demanding. It is a video game by Nintendo and can be played from a standing or sitting position. There are two lanes and 8 people play at a time. The laughter is infectious. Get active, make friends, be well. Individual and team scores are kept with trophies presented on the last day. This family-friendly event rallies together individuals from across the Quinte region to celebrate the lives of our loved ones passed, and to raise funds for the professional and compassionate end-of-life and bereavement support services that Hospice Quinte provides to the residents of our community. With no effective vaccine or treatment, the virus infected Canadians at an alarming rate, resulting in approximately 55,000 deaths. Discover how the Spanish Flue pandemic profoundly impacted the history of Canada in this new travelling exhibit from Ingenium. Local artifacts, newspaper reports and photographs will show how Belleville and the Quinte Region were impacted. Tai Chi for Seniors – Starts September 23rd, 2019 (12 weeks) - Picton

Beginner and continuation Tai Chi classes are held Mondays at the office of Community Care for Seniors, 74A King Street, Picton, through the County Seniors Centre. Tai Chi is a way to help seniors stay fit and flexible. Tai Chi is a low-impact form of exercise, but it is also a weight bearing exercise, which is an important component of managing osteoporosis. Some of the benefits of Tai Chi are: better balance, which lowers the risk for falls, less pain and stiffness, stress relief and increased calmness and sense of well-being. And to top it off, it also helps to improve memory. No experience is necessary and all fitness levels are welcome. If you’re a senior 60+ who would benefit from Tai Chi and would like to give it a try, call the County Seniors Centre at 613-476-7493. Prepayment is required, Beginner $25.00 and Continuation $12.00.  Space is limited and it is recommended to sign up early. A membership is required to join Tai Chi.

The Wii Bowling League is on Tuesdays starting at 1:30 pm at the office of Community Care for Seniors, 74A King Street, Picton. Seniors can enter a team of four or sign up as an individual. Wii bowling is not physically demanding. It is a video game by Nintendo and can be played from a standing or sitting position. There are two lanes and 8 people play at a time. The laughter is infectious. Get active, make friends, be well. Individual and team scores are kept with trophies presented on the last day.
