March 26th Cultural Lecture Series will begin for the Spring-2019 session. This will be a 6-week program called “The Best Of Italy” where the Caboto Club will be exploring the UNESCO World Heritage Sites Of Italy. From the Pile dwellings in The Alps, south to Val di Noto in Sicily and across the sea to Barumini in Sardegna, we will discuss these places of significant importance to cultural and natural heritage. Despite the country’s small size in comparison to the rest of the world, Italy has the most World Heritage Sites at 54. Each World Hertiage Site Of Italy lecture, will be presented once again by Andy & Donna Moro. This dynamic couple will share their knowledge, starting with the Northern region March 26th continue with the Central region April.9th and conclude with the Southern & Insular regions, April 23rd As part of this lecture series, we are also offering a special detailed travelogue segment you won’t want to miss called “Sulle Strade d’Italia” “On The Roads Of Italy”. This will feature some exciting information where we will discuss some lesser-known gems as we take you on a road trip vacation throughout the same three regions.  Have you ever thought about a vacation to Italy but are just not sure of what to do, where to go, or how to plan it? Presenter Giuliano Lunardi will discusses the Northern region, April 2nd . Stefano Nicola continues the travels for the Central region April 16th and Alex Sorrentino closes the lecture series April 30th with the Southern region. Earth Day 2019 Highlights Species at Risk Join local residents and millions of people worldwide in celebrating Earth Day on Sunday, April 28, 2019! The City of Windsor and the Essex Windsor Solid Waste Authority will host a free public celebration from 10am to 3pm at Malden Park (4200 Malden Road). This year’s national theme is “Protect our Species,” and our local celebration will include a pop-up adventure playground, environmental arts and crafts, eco-exhibits, Super Duper Ultra Guy and over 30 environmental exhibits to check out. New this year, Sciensational SSSnakes and the Art Lab Splatter Tent will be on hand too.  There will be food and drinks for sale, so bring some cash. Earth Day is a worldwide event held to increase awareness and appreciation of the earth’s natural environment. The City of Windsor is hoping to educate residents on environment and sustainability issues by using hands-on, interactive methods. More than 30 different organizations will participate in this event, which is designed to provide a voice and venue to environmental causes.         Walk Wheel Windsor also encourages you to take alternative transportation to Earth Day! Can-Am Golf Series in Support of 2022 Police-Fire Games Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens is pleased to announce the first annual Can-Am Golf Series in support of the 2022 Can-Am Police Fire Games. “Windsor is well-known as an exceptional location for major events, and we plan to deliver another ‘best games ever’ experience in 2022,” said Mayor Dilkens. “And, leading up to it, the organizing committee and the City of Windsor will host four fundraising golf events to raise awareness and funds in support of the Games.” This year’s event will be held on Monday, June 17, 2019 at the Roseland Golf & Curling Club. It will be a shotgun start—scramble format. Registration and breakfast begin at 9am, and tee time is at 10am. Lunch will be served on the course, followed by a cocktail reception, BBQ and prizes and silent auction from 4pm. The Mayor of the Municipality of Leamington is aiming to increase the direct engagement and connection with Leamington residents outside of Council meetings and other official events. To do that, Mayor Hilda MacDonald will be hosting coffee with the Mayor events throughout the year. These “Coffee Chats” will provide Leamington residents and Mayor MacDonald an opportunity to have one-on-one conversations in a relaxed and informal setting.  “The casual atmosphere and great coffee are a perfect combination for the exchange of ideas, feedback, and general community-building” said Mayor Hilda MacDonald. The first Coffee Chat will be held Saturday, April 6, 2019 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at the Leamington Municipal Building, 111 Erie Street North, Leamington. All residents are invited to attend.
